ViewAble Privacy Policy
ViewAble simplifies web pages, reads them aloud, and generates summaries and quizzes to support visually impaired, low‑vision, dyslexic, and elderly readers.
1. Introduction
ViewAble (“the Extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that simplifies web pages, provides read‑aloud, and generates summaries and quizzes to make online reading more accessible.
This Privacy Policy explains what data we process, how we use it, and how we protect it when you use ViewAble.
2. Data We Collect
Website content
When you use ViewAble on a page, we process the text and structure of the current web page (for example, article text and headings) so we can simplify it, read it aloud, summarize it, and generate quiz questions.
Usage preferences and settings
We store your accessibility and reading preferences in your browser so ViewAble can remember them across sessions, including:
- Dyslexic font on/off
- High‑contrast mode on/off
- Text size and line spacing
- Theme (light / dark / auto)
- Voice gender preference and volume for text‑to‑speech
What we do not collect
We do not intentionally collect or store personally identifiable information (such as your name or email), health information, financial data, authentication information (passwords), personal communications, or your full browsing history outside the active page you invoke the Extension on.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use collected data only to provide and improve ViewAble’s features:
- To simplify and reformat pages into a clean, accessible reader view.
- To apply accessibility options such as dyslexic font, high contrast, text size, and line spacing based on your saved preferences.
- To read content aloud using Chrome’s text‑to‑speech (TTS) according to your chosen voice and volume.
- To generate summaries and quiz questions by sending relevant page text to our AI provider and displaying the results back to you.
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or user profiling.
4. Data Storage and Retention
Your accessibility preferences and settings are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage APIs so the Extension can remember them across sessions.
We do not maintain our own external database of user profiles or long‑term logs of your browsing content. Text sent to the AI service is processed for summaries and quizzes and may be subject to that provider’s own retention policies.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We share limited data with third parties only when necessary to provide core functionality:
AI provider (Groq)
When you request a summary or quiz, ViewAble sends relevant portions of the current page’s text to Groq’s API to generate a summary or multiple‑choice questions. The data sent is limited to what is needed to produce the requested output.
6. Legal Basis and Children
ViewAble is intended for general audiences, including students and adults, and is not specifically directed at children under 13. By using the Extension, you consent to the data practices described here, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to help protect data processed by the Extension, including HTTPS when communicating with external services and limiting the data we send to what is needed for accessibility features.
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Choices
- You can disable or uninstall the Extension at any time.
- You can adjust accessibility, voice, and volume settings in the popup or options pages.
- You can choose not to use features like “Summarize” or “Quiz” if you do not want page text sent to the AI service.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in ViewAble’s features, data practices, or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where required, provide additional notice or obtain consent.
